UAB Heads to Auburn to Take On 6th Ranked Tigers

BIRMINGHAM – After completing the sweep of Middle Tennessee over the weekend, UAB Baseball (10-6) travels to Auburn on Tuesday to take on the No. 6 Tigers. UAB swept the season series over Auburn last season for the first time since 1980.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Butch Thompson's Auburn Tigers come into the midweek matchup winners of six straight. Auburn boasts one of the best pitching staffs in the SEC as the Tigers rank third in ERA (2.61), third fewest home runs allowed (8), and tied for third fewest runs allowed (46). Brandon McCraine leads the team with a .477 batting average and a 1.147 OPS. Bristol Carter is second on the team in those two categories and leads the team with 13 stolen bases. RHP Andreas Alvarez is set to make his 13th career start and his second against the Blazers.
THINGS TO KNOW
- UAB's John Paul Head was named American Conference Player of the Week for Week 4 after going 10-for-17 with six home runs, three doubles, 10 runs scored, 10 RBI, two walks, a stolen base and tallied 31 total bases. Across the four games Head played in last week, he had a slugging percentage of 1.824 and an OPS of 2.474. Additionally, Head had three hits in all three games in a series sweep over Middle Tennessee. He became the fourth player in school history to hit three home runs in a game, and he accomplished the feat twice this past weekend. His three home runs in a game are tied for the most in a single game in American Conference history.
- Head also became the eighth player this season to hit three home runs in a single game. He also leads the American Conference this season with 10 home runs.
- Alex Dupuy also had 10 hits over the last four games for the Blazers. The junior infielder from Natchitoches, LA went 10-for-18 with seven runs scored, six RBI, three home runs, three doubles, and carried a 1.822 OPS over the last four games.
- Austin Pierzynski also shined in the two games he started last week. The true freshman catcher from Orlando, FL went 5-for-8 with a triple and scored two runs.
- Brady Waugh played hero in game three of the Middle Tennessee series. Waugh launched a walk-off grand slam to take down the Blue Raiders, 16-14. Waugh also batted .353 last week.
- UAB blasted 13 home runs in the 3-game series sweep over Middle Tennessee. The Blazers lead the American Conference with 34 home runs.
- Sophomore RHP Brendan Conner will be making his second start of the season and fifth of his career.
