BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Softball lost 6-1 to #17/#12 Mississippi State in the Blazers' final game ahead of the American Conference season. A pair of Nadia Barbary homers propelled the Bulldogs to the win. UAB recorded four hits, all in different innings. Without drawing any walks or hit-by-pitches, the Blazers were not able to piece together anything offensively besides an unearned run in the third inning.

Barbary hit two home runs for the Bulldogs, driving in four of their six runs. Barbary's first homer came in the first, going just over the center field wall. Her second homer, in the fifth inning, sailed over the right field fence. Mississippi State added on two runs in the sixth on a pinch-hit double down the right field line.

Hannah Miles tripled in the third inning, her first of the season and ninth of her career. Miles sent a ball to the left-center gap and had her eyes set on third base, never slowing around second base. The triple ties Miles for the fourth most in UAB history. Miles scored the lone UAB run on an errant throw by the Mississippi State pitcher, allowing Jaycee Holt to reach base.

Caitlin Russell got the start and the loss for UAB. Russell went five innings, allowing four earned runs.

Notables

Miles's ninth career triple ties her with Amanda Ellis, Whitney Fletcher, and Jenna Olszewski for the fourth most triples in UAB history.
UAB failed to draw a walk for the second time this season (Feb. 24 at Alabama).
