BIRMINGHAM – UAB Baseball made quick work of North Alabama on Tuesday as the Blazers defeated the Lions, 10-0, for the Green and Gold's sixth straight win overall. The win also puts the Blazers at 16-4 at home this season, which is tied for the second-best start in school history, and the sixth time the feat has happened.
UAB jumped on the board first on Tuesday in the bottom of the second inning. Max Price drove in Alex Dupuy on an RBI groundout to open the scoring. The Green and Gold have scored first in nine of the last 10 games.
The Blazers plated two more in the bottom of the third. Alex Cheeseman shined in his first game back from injury and scored on a wild pitch. Later, Landon Beaver intentionally found himself in a rundown and held on long enough to score John Paul Head from third to give UAB a 3-0 lead through three innings of play.
The score would hold until the bottom of the sixth inning. After a lineout for the first out of the inning, the Blazers got a walk, single, and hit by pitch to load the bases. With the bases full of Blazers, Kevin Hall Jr. hit a grand slam to right for his fourth home run of the year, and his second against North Alabama, to extend the UAB lead to 7-0.
The Blazers loaded the bases again in the bottom of the seventh inning. This time, it was Wesley Helms' turn to drive in runs as he knocked a single through the right side to plate Alex Dupuy and Baylor Roberts. After reloading the bases and with the infield drawn in, Alex Cheeseman hit a single into center field for the Blazers' fourth run-rule victory of the season.
