Blazers Upset Georgia Tech with Trio of Home Runs

ATLANTA - UAB Softball was led by a pair of unexpected heroes in AJ Kramer and Antonia Henderson, each hitting go-ahead home runs to give UAB its first win over an ACC team since 2020.
The Blazers started with a two-run homer in the first inning from Ashlyn Shirah, her second home run of the season. Georgia Tech responded with a five-run first inning. UAB began to chip away at the lead with a pair of extra-base hits and a passed ball in the second inning.
Kramer pinch hit for Hope Tucker in the third inning, then remained in the game as the designated player. In her second at-bat, Kramer took a 0-1 pitch deep to center field to score three runs in the process to take the lead.
Georgia Tech responded with a go-ahead home run of its own in the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth inning, Henderson took her first at-bat of the game after entering the game for an injured Abbi Perkins. On the first pitch she faced, Henderson homered to right field for her second-career homer.
The Blazers held on to the to 9-8 lead with back-to-back scoreless innings in Caitlin Russell's second save of the season.
