BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team is traveling for the first conference matchup of the year against South Florida (2-0-4) on Friday at 6:00 p.m. CST.
South Florida comes into the match after being ranked No. 22 last week but fell out of the rankings this week. The Bulls tied two games against UCF and Mercer both by a score of 1-1.
Last week, UAB Drew FGCU 1-1 at home to improve their record to 1-2-1
American Weekly Honors
Ole Jessen received the Defensive Player of the Week Honors playing in all 180 minutes on the week, scoring two goals from his outside back position. Humphrey Doh grabbed American Conference honorable mention for his three assists against USC Upstate.
Scouting the Bulls
South Florida fell out of the rankings last week. The Bulls tied UNC Greensboro who is currently ranked No. 11 in the country. USF also drew Saint Louis 0-0, a team that finds themselves ranked No. 23 at the moment. Fabio Bozessan leads the Bulls with three goals and three assists on the season. In goal Jahiem Wickham has started all six games making 22 saves and a .786 save percentage.
Series History
South Florida leads the series 5-12-1 with the last result coming on Nov. 1, 2024, in the American Conference Tournament. The Bulls won the game 4-2. This series has a rich history, with the first matchup happening in 1983.
Common Opponents
UAB and South Florida will have eight common opponents throughout the season. The Bulls have played FGCU (W, 3-2) already with the other opponents being Memphis, Missouri State, Tulsa, Charlotte, FIU, FAU, and Temple. UAB drew against FGCU and will play all of the rest of these opponents later in the season.
