Women’s Tennis Falls to UTSA in AAC Championship Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – UAB women's tennis (14-9, 1-2 AAC) fell against UTSA (19-4, 2-4 AAC) 4-3 on Thursday morning in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship.
The Roadrunners opened the match by taking the doubles point on Courts 2 and 3.
Doubles
1. Vanessa Mellynchuk/Mackenzie White (UAB) def. Letizia Corsini/Ekua Youri (UTSA) 6-1
2. Arina Babenko/Valeria Sanchez (UTSA) def. Kristyna Damaskova/Nera Tesankic (UAB) 6-3
3. Castaneda Guerrero/Aoka Nagasawa (UTSA) def. Maria Paz Ospina/Enya Ratkic (UAB) 7-5
The Blazers were able to grab three singles wins on Courts 2, 5 and 6 to be in front 3-1. UTSA was able to secure a win on Court 4 to make the match 3-2.
Vanessa Mellynchuk was able to claim a win in set one but dropped the second to set which forced the match into a third set. The third set went to the Roadrunners and tied the score 3-3. The match was up to Court 3 to determine the winner which was in a third set. UTSA ultimately won on Court 3 to earn the victory.
