Blazers Win Wild Game Over Cornell

However, neither team scored until the 4th inning. That's when Todd Clay doubled home Logan Braunschweig who reached via an infield single. With two out and two on, Andrew Hunt also reached on an infield single on a play he was originally called out on.
Braunschweig has now reached base safely in 43 consecutive games dating back to last season which leads the American Conference.
The Big Red chipped away at the Blazers' 2-0 advantage in the bottom half of the 4th. Ryan Porter's second of three hits on the day drove home Mark Quatrani from second.
Cornell took the lead in the bottom of the 5th on a home run to left center by Quatrani to give the Big Red a 3-2 lead.
Back-to-back bases loaded walks by Jake Merrick and Wesley Helms put the Blazers back in front, 4-3. Hunt scored on a wild pitch, then Tyler Harrington walked as well to load the bases again. Gavin Lewis Jr. singled on a ball that hit the left center field wall to score Merrick from third. Braunschweig walked and Clay was hit by a pitch to cap off a six-run 6th inning for the Green and Gold.
The Big Red also put up a crooked number in the 6th. John Quinlan singled to plate two runs. Two batters later, Max Jensen scored Luke Johnson from third on an RBI groundout. With the bases loaded, Kevin Hager doubled home all three runs to put Cornell back in front, 9-8.
UAB answered back in the top of the 7th. Cornell botched an infield fly with the bases loaded to bring Andrew Hunt home to tie the game. With the bases still loaded, Braunschweig reached safely on a fielder's choice and everybody was safe around the bases to put the Blazers ahead, 10-9. Nick Hollifield reached on a fielder's choice as well, but the throw from second trickled away far enough to score both Wesley Helms and Gavin Lewis Jr.
With the Blazers up 12-9, Cornell scored one in the bottom of the 7th to cut into the UAB lead.
Camden Hayslip came up with two on and two out in the top half of the 8th. The senior from Lebanon, Tenn. singled up the middle to score Tyler Waugh for a very important insurance run and put the Blazers up, 13-10.
Cornell scored two in the bottom of the 8th. Ryan Porter's third hit of the game doubled Mark Quatrani. Kevin Hager scored on an RBI groundout to cut the lead back to one.
In the 9th inning, the Green and Gold turned to Ryan Olson for the second consecutive day. The junior right-hander sat the Big Red down in order to preserve the 13-12 win and earned his fourth save of the season.
UAB concludes the First Pitch Invitational tomorrow for a rematch with Michigan State. First pitch from Fluor Field is at noon ET/11 a.m. CT on ESPN+.
