Blazers Fall in Season Opener

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team opened its season up in the South Alabama Invitational on Thursday night, dropping game one 4-1 against South Alabama. The Jaguars out hit the Blazers 6-4 in Mobile, Alabama tonight.

IN THE INNINGS
South Alabama took no time in getting on the scoreboard with one run on one hit in the first inning. The hit came from Olivia Bransteetter who laid down a bunt to put the lead at 1-0. UAB got their first hit of the day on a Hannah Dorsett single to the shortstop. The Jaguars added another run in the fifth with two hits and a walk.

Dorsett drove in Brantlee Wortham for UAB's only run of the game in the sixth. Dorsett had an RBI out to the third baseman to score Wortham and make the score UAB 2, USA 1. In the bottom of the inning, UAB walked three batters then Sidney Lee and Caitlyn Gavin drove in two more runs. UAB trailed 4-1 heading into the seventh and final inning. USA went three up three down to end the game.
