GAME 1 VS SOUTHERN INDIANA
Southern Indiana went to work right away scoring a run off of a single down the right field line. UAB answered right away with a three run three hit bottom of the first. Bella Wiggins laid down a beautiful bunt to get things started followed by a Hannah Dorsett bunt. An error by the Southern Indiana shortstop scored the first two runs for UAB. Alyssa Aguilar singled to push Lindsey Smith across the plate for her ninth RBI of the season.
Another run did not come across until the third inning when UAB put up one run on three hits. Brantlee Wortham scored Hope Tucker to put the lead at 4-1 Blazers.
Southern Indiana came alive in the fifth inning scoring two runs, but it could have been more. Four hits by the Screaming Eagles gave the Blazers a one run lead 4-3. They carried that lead into the seventh inning where the Blazers put out three out of four batters for the win.
GAME 2 vs BELMONT
Three runs on three hits started the first inning off on the right foot for UAB. singles by Wiggins and Dorsett put runners on first and second with no outs. A sacrifice bunt by Hope Tucker put runners on second and third with just one out, and Linsdey Smith delivered. She hit a three run bomb to left field.
Belmont went out in order the next two innings, while UAB achieved just one base runner. The Bruins put together a seven run fourth inning to take over the lead 7-3. The Blazers answered right away with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Aguilar hit her fifth extra base hit of the year and Makenzie Droddy followed that up with her first collegiate home run. The score was now 7-5 Bruins.
The scoring did not stop there as Belmont scored three more to take a 10-5 lead into the bottom of the sixth. The Bruins added another run in the 6th after UAB got just one on base.
Hannah Miles doubled to drive in Britt Bourgoyne for her third run of the year. This cut the lead to five. UAB would have to score at least five runs to continue the game in the bottom of the seventh. The rally started with Dorsett, Aguilar, and Ashlyn Shirah all hitting singles and scoring two runs. Belmont struck out the final two batters to win the game 11-8.
