UAB Men’s Basketball Hosts Temple on Sunday

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball (17-9, 10-3 AAC) hosts Temple (14-13, 6-8 AAC) on Sunday afternoon at Bartow Arena. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.
At halftime of Sunday's contest, UAB will host its annual Corgi Race.

SERIES HISTORY
The all-time series between the Blazers and the Owls is tied at 3-3, including a 1-1 mark in Birmingham. UAB won each of last year's meetings including a 100-72 victory in Philadelphia and an 85-69 win in the American Conference Tournament Championship game.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB escaped with a 90-89 victory on the road at Rice. Yaxel Lendeborg knocked down a pair of free throws win 5.7 seconds remaining to put the Blazers ahead in the final moments. Efrem "Butta" Johnson scored a career high 24 points while shooting 10-for-13 to keep the Blazers alive.
YAX SEASON
Yaxel Lendeborg is posting even more impressive numbers during his second year at UAB. He is averaging 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists so far this season for the Blazers, leading the team in each category. He is the third Blazer (Carlos Williams, Andy Kennedy) to open a season with three straight games with at least 20 points. Lendeborg earned AAC Player of the Week honors after averaging 23.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists in a pair of wins over Tulane and Florida Atlantic. He has also shown his ability to find his teammates, recording five or more assists in 13 games this season, including a streak of seven-straight games with at least five assists. Lendeborg set the UAB program record with 36 career double-doubles and has 18 on the season, just one shy of his single-season program record that he set last season.
GET TO THE LINE
The Blazers were one of the best teams in the country at getting to the charity stripe in 2023-24, finishing eighth in the country in free throws made per game at 17.8. This year, the Blazers are again getting to the free throw line at a high rate. UAB is 66th in the nation with 15.7 free throws made per game and 45th in the country at 76.2 percent from the charity stripe.
CRASH THE BOARDS
This season, UAB is again among the top rebounding teams in the nation, ranking 13th in the country in rebounds per contest with 40.4. UAB is especially strong on the offensive glass with 14.8 offensive boards per game, which is fourth in the nation. The Blazers grab 39.0 percent of their misses on the offensive end, which is the fifth best rate in the country. Yaxel Lendeborg led the team in rebounding last season with 10.6 per game and is again averaging double figures on the glass. He has grabbed 15 or more rebounds in 13 games as a Blazer, including a 21-rebound game vs. Florida Atlantic which ranks second in program history.
