BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team lost game one of the Samford Invitational to the host Samford Bulldogs 5-6. Seven innings was not enough as Samford wins it in the eighth on a walk off single.

Both teams were in a pitcher's duel through three innings allowing just three hits. All three hits came from Samford in the first inning. The next hit did not come until the top of the fifth when Hope Tucker hit a homerun to left field. Hannah Miles doubled to left field to score two more runs in the same inning. Samford added a run in the fifth to make it 3-1 UAB.

The Blazers continued scoring into the sixth inning with two runs on three hits. Tucker drove in another run with a single and Alyssa Aguilar hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1. Samford again answered the UAB scoring with four runs of their own on just two hits.

Only one hit came in innings seven through eight and it was the one to give Samford the win. Because of the international tiebreaker rule both teams started with runners on second when they were batting. Katie Heart stepped up and hit a single to drive in the winning run.
