UAB Suffers 53-24 Home Loss to North Texas

North Texas true freshman Caleb Hawkins set a school record with five rushing touchdowns and finished the game with 27 carries for 189 yards.
Two early turnovers for the Blazers (3-7, 1-5 American) saw UAB get down 21-0 early in the first and they were unable to recover despite having 478 yards of offense. North Texas (9-1, 5-1 American) finished with 506 total yards.
Running Back Jevon Jackson (16 carries for 159 yards) and Brandon Hawkins Jr. (six catches for 127 yards, TD) were standouts for UAB on offense. Hawkins Jr. set a career high in receiving yards while scoring a touchdown in three straight games.
North Texas wasted no time getting on the board, capping its opening drive with a 1-yard scoring run by Caleb Hawkins. Hawkins scored three first quarter touchdowns.
The Blazers' lone first half touchdown was a 32-yard reception by Hawkins Jr. from Jalen Kitna, who finished the game 26-of-45 for 281 yards, one touchdown two interceptions. UAB trailed 31–7 at the break after a 46-yard North Texas field goal closed out the first half.
Jackson kickstarted the second half with a 58-yard burst, pushing UAB down to the North Texas 6-yard line. Ryder Burton capped off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to put UAB within two scores [31-15]. For Jackson, it was his 12th career 100-yard rushing game and his second at UAB.
Jonah Delange added a season long 46-yard field with 6:37 left in the third. However, North Texas scored 17 third quarter points to lead 46-18 after the three.
With his third catch of the day, Iverson Hooks entered the top 10 in program history for single season receptions and finished the game with six catches overall. He is now tied for 7th in single season receptions at UAB with Austin Watkins Jr. (57).
The Blazers are back in action next Saturday at Protective Stadium against South Florida. Kickoff is still TBA and will be announced tomorrow.
