WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
- North Texas enters the game with the nation's second highest scoring offense (44.4) and is fifth nationally in total offense (487.8). Led by redshirt freshman quarterback Drew Mestemaker, UNT ranks sixth nationally in passing yards per game (308.3), while also averaging 179.4 rushing yards per game.
- Mestemaker never started a game in high school and joined UNT as a walk-on in 2024. He won the job this season and is up for major national awards having thrown for 2,702 yards, 21 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
- In the run game, Caleb Hawkins leads the Mean Green efforts with 121 carries for 744 yards (6.1 YPC) and 11 touchdowns.
- The Blazers defense has been playing well of late and will need another stout performance. UAB is coming off a game in which they allowed a season-low 232 yards against Rice and over their last three games UAB is allowing just 322.6 total yards of offense.
- North Texas has made major strides on defense this season and enters the game ranking 64th in total defense (364.4). UNT has been stellar in passing defense by allowing just 160.3 yards per game (8th nationally), but does give up yards on the ground by ranking 128th nationally in rushing defense (204.1).
- Look for UAB's rushing attack that features a trio of backs in Jevon Jackson, Solomon Beebe and Isaiah Jacobs to be very heavily involved on Saturday. Jackson leads the charge with 592 rushing yards (65.8/game), while Beebe is the home run hitter with an average of 7.3 yards per carry and a team-high five rushing touchdowns.
- Beebe does it all for the Blazers with an average of 107.9 all-purpose yards per game. Overall, he has 261 rushing yards, 254 receiving yards and 456 kickoff return yards. His 107.9 all-purpose yards per game ranks him 31st nationally.
- Wide receiver Iverson Hooks is also having a standout season for the Blazers with 51 catches for 677 yards and six touchdowns. He ranks second in the American Conference in receptions per game (5.6) and third in receiving yards per game (75.2). Hooks needs three catches this weekend to crack UAB's top 10 for single season receptions.
- UAB's offensive line is one of 12 units nationally that has had the same starting lineup the entire season. LT Brandon Sneh, LG Calib Perez, C Adam Lepkowski, RG JonDarius Morgan and RT Logan Moore have been the same five for UAB all season long. They join Air Force, Duke, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Miami (FL), Minnesota, Old Dominion, San Diego State, Texas A&M and Texas Tech as the only schools nation-wide with the same starting five.
The North Texas game is the first of two straight home games for the Blazers. Following UNT, UAB remains in Birmingham to host South Florida on Nov. 22. Kickoff is still TBA and will be announced this weekend.
