BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB men's soccer secured a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Jacksonville on Tuesday night at PNC Field
The Blazers (3–6–1) struck first in the 12th minute when Lucas Rizzo finished off a combination from Jessen and Mathias Loeve Groth, notching his first goal of the season. UAB doubled its advantage before halftime as Patrik Fagan buried a well-placed cross from Carson Brice in the 40th minute, assisted also by Gustavo Barbosa.
Jacksonville (2–6–2) quickly answered, as Matias Tobon converted in the 43rd minute following a setup by Christian Lindtner Wahlström, trimming the Blazers' lead to 2–1 at the break.
After a tightly contested second half, Jessen delivered the match-winning strike in the 83rd minute, his third goal of the season, on a sequence started by Tony Kim and Humphrey Doh. The Dolphins refused to fold, pulling one back just three minutes later through Dante Wright, but UAB held firm in the closing moments to secure the win.
Goalkeeper Francisco Ranieri recorded four saves to earn his first win of the year, while Jacksonville's Simen Havig made three stops in the loss.
Despite Jacksonville's 17–10 shot advantage and 53% possession, UAB's efficiency in the final third proved the difference, as all six of its shots on target forced action.
