Men’s Soccer Preview: Charlotte

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team (3-6-1) hosts Charlotte (5-3-2) on Sunday night at 7 p.m. for its second-to-last home match of the season.
UAB sits at 1-3 in American Conference play after a 1-0 loss at Tulsa last week. The Blazers have won two of their last five matches, with all three losses during that stretch coming by a single goal against Tulsa, Memphis, and Georgia State.
Charlotte earned a 1-0 win at Campbell on Tuesday. The 49ers own conference victories over Tulsa and Memphis and have played just three league matches so far this season.
American Weekly Honors
Sept. 29
Mabon recorded five saves in a 4-0 shutout win over Missouri State. He also recorded an assist on a long punt to Tony Kim.
Doh was named as an honorable mention for the week with a top bins goal against Missouri State. He hit a half volley from 35-yards that hit the cross bar and went down into the goal. Danslet scored a goal in UAB's 4-0 win over Missouri State and helped earn the shutout.
Sept. 9
Ole Jessen received the Defensive Player of the Week Honors playing in all 180 minutes on the week, scoring two goals from his outside back position. Humphrey Doh grabbed American Conference honorable mention for his three assists against USC Upstate.
Scouting the 49ers
Charlotte has won three of its last five matches and is 29th nationally in shots on goal per game (6.40). The 49ers have conceded nine goals in 10 games for a 0.90 goals-against average. Denis Krioutchenkov leads the team with four goals, while Elias Arsvoll paces the 49ers with 10 points on three goals and four assists.
Series History
Charlotte leads the all-time series 26-9-6. The teams first met in 1979, and the current 49ers head coach is 12-0-4 against UAB. The Blazers earned a draw last season in North Carolina. Charlotte holds a 17-match unbeaten streak in the series dating back to 2010.
