BIRMINGHAM – Ahmad Robinson's 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining tied the game at 76, but WKU's LJ Hackman drove the lane with eight seconds to go for the winning bucket as the Hilltoppers defeated UAB 78-76 on Wednesday night at Bartow Arena.

Jacob Meyer, who scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, had a last second 3-point attempt which came up short as time expired. Robinson added a double-double with 18 and 10 rebounds, but UAB was 15-of-31 from the free throw line which ultimately hindered the Blazers in the loss.

WKU shot 40 percent for the game and was led by Teagan Moore who had a game-high 26 points.

Trailing by two early on, the Blazers used an 8-0 run to go up 14-8, highlighted by two 3-pointers from reserve forward Evan Chatman. UAB stretched the lead to 18-11 after a Salim London jumper with 11:50 left.

However, WKU then went on a 19-2 run to take control of the game and gained a 30-20 lead after two free throws from Moore with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half.

The Blazers responded with seven unanswered to get back in the game, but WKU took a 37-32 lead into halftime behind 44 percent first half shooting and tallied 22 of its 37 points in the paint. Chatman scored all 10 of his points in the first half to lead the Blazers at the break.

Jacob Meyer exploded out of the locker room by scoring 13 quick points for UAB, and his driving layup at the 13:48 mark of the second half forced a WKU timeout with the Blazers ahead 53-49.

WKU scored the next five points to regain the lead and held onto the lead until Robinson's game-tying 3-pointer in the final seconds. With UAB down two (65-63), WKU went on an 8-2 run which forced a UAB timeout with the Tops leading 72-65 with 5:10 left.

WKU held a five point lead with just over a minute left (76-71), but Robinson connected on a jumper with :51 remaining, and the Blazers got the defensive stop they needed to allow Robinson to tie the game with a triple, but Hackman received the ball on the wing, drove into the lane and converted a tough layup to give WKU the win.

The Blazers have concluded preseason play and now open the 2025-26 season on Monday, Nov. 3, at Bartow Arena against Mississippi Valley State. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
