Blazers Swept by Owls

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Volleyball took its eighth straight-set loss of the season, falling at home to Florida Atlantic. Three double-digit-kill attackers and 54 total kills powered the Owl offense past the Blazers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FAU and UAB traded long runs to start the match, with FAU taking a 5-1 lead, and quickly returned with a six-point run by the Blazers. UAB led 12-11 before the Owls went on a 7-1 run to force a UAB timeout at 18-13. UAB nearly erased FAU's five-point lead, pulling within a point. However, FAU won six of the next seven points, clinching the set, 25-19.
The Blazers and Owls traded points back-and-forth to start the second set as neither team took a lead larger than two points. Down one, FAU went on a five-point run to take a 15-11 lead into the media timeout before tacking on one more point post-timeout. The Owls continued to cruise through the set, taking a 21-13 lead after back-to-back Blazer errors. The teams split the final eight points of the set, allowing FAU to ease to a set victory, 25-17.
A 5-1 FAU run forced a quick Blazer timeout to begin the third set. The Owls kept their large lead throughout the set, expanding their lead to eight to force UAB's second timeout at 17-9. The Blazers were able to slowly chip away at the Owl lead, bringing it down to five. However, FAU won five of the final seven points to win the frame 25-18.
STANDOUTS
Jorda Crook was dominant in the opening set with seven kills before only tallying four kills the rest of the match.
Kennedy Vaughn hit .500 in her limited time on the court. Vaughn recorded seven kills, her most since Oct. 3 vs Rice (eight), on 12 attempts.
Mia Reese led the Blazers with 11 digs, the first time she's led UAB since Sept. 13 vs Western Illinois.
UP NEXT
UAB makes two trips during the upcoming week, traveling to Memphis and New Orleans. The Blazers make a quick turnaround, playing at Memphis on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. UAB gets the Friday bye before making the visit to Tulane at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2.
