BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer (4-4-6, 1-2-3) earned its first conference win of the season with a 5-2 win over East Carolina (5-5-3, 3-2-1) on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field.

The Blazers took a 1-0 lead in the 37^th minute when Ava Mills scored off an assist from Avery Berryman. The Green and Gold outshot the Pirates in 9-3 in the first half.

Mia Leath extended the lead early in the second half with a goal assisted by Mills. East Carolina's AJ Mayock scored in the 67^th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1, but UAB responded quickly as Lailah Stewart scored in the 76^th minute off assists from Sydney Bolinger and Abbey Burns.

Mayock added another goal for ECU in the 80^th minute, but Stewart answered just 57 seconds later with her second goal of the afternoon, assisted by Mills. Stewart completed her hat trick in the 88^th minute off passes from Burns and Berryman to secure the 5-2 victory.

UAB outshot ECU 17-10 and held a 58-42 edge in possession. Goalkeeper Leah Parsons made three saves, while the Pirates keeper had five.

Up next, the Blazers hit the road to Florida Atlantic on Sunday, October 19. Kickoff is set for noon CT.
