BIRMINGHAM – Yaxel Lendeborg finished just two assists shy of a triple-double on Tuesday night, leading UAB men's basketball (9-7, 2-1 AAC) to an 81-69 win over Tulane (8-8, 2-1 AAC).

The Green Wave jumped out to an early 18-9 lead at the 12:27 mark with an 8-0 run. UAB responded quickly afterwards with back-to-back threes by Tyren Moore.

Trailing 23-15, Yaxel Lendeborg got the Blazers right back into the game with a solo 7-0 run that was capped by a three pointer to make it a one-point game.

The Blazers separated from the Green Wave late in the half as Tony Toney knocked down a pair of threes to force a Tulane timeout. Ja'Borri McGhee capped the 10-0 run with a layup as the Blazers led 41-32 with less than three minutes to go in the half.

McGhee ended the half with a rebound and was fouled on the putback for a three-point play to give the Blazers a 46-38 advantage at the break. Lendeborg finished the first half with 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

UAB came out flat after the break, turning the ball over on each of the first three possessions, forcing Andy Kennedy to take a timeout.

Midway through the second half, Lendeborg and Efrem "Butta" Johnson each scored four points to help the Blazers to an 8-0 run and a 62-54 lead.

Tony Toney again came through for UAB with back-to-back threes with less than five minutes to go to push the lead to 71-59.

The Blazers were able to hang on in the final minutes for the 81-69 victory.

NOTES

Yaxel Lendeborg's bid for the Blazers' third triple-double came up just short as he posted 25 points, 13 rebounds and a career high eight assists.
Tony Toney matched his season high of 15 points while knocking down a career-best five 3FGs.
Ja'Borri McGhee finished with 11 points and tied his career high of four steals.
The Blazers finished with 20 assists for the sixth time this season.
UAB had attempted only 23 combined free throws over the last two games, the fewest over any two-game stretch since the 2020-21 season.
UAB has scored over 80 points 12 times this season, just one shy of the Blazers' total of 13 during the 2023-24 season.
