Men’s Basketball Set to Face Florida Atlantic

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball will face off with Florida Atlantic on Sunday afternoon in Boca Raton. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. CT.

SERIES HISTORY
UAB leads the all-time series over the Owls, 14-6. Florida Atlantic has won each of the last three meetings in Boca Raton. The programs met five times over the last two seasons.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers earned an 81-69 win over Tulane on Tuesday night. Yaxel Lendeborg led the Blazers with 25 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists while Tony Toney added 15 points on five three-pointers.
YEAR TWO YAX
Yaxel Lendeborg is posting even more impressive numbers during his second year at UAB. He is averaging 16.4 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists so far this season for the Blazers, leading the team in each category. Lendeborg became the third Blazer to open a season with three straight games with at least 20 points. He joins Carlos Williams and Andy Kennedy as the only players to have such a start at UAB.
JUCO DAWGS
UAB has embraced the JUCO ranks during Andy Kennedy's time in Birmingham and the 2024-25 roster features seven players that have played at a Junior College including Christian Coleman (South Plains), Greg Gordon (Dyersburg State), Marquis Hargrove (Arizona Western), Ja'Borri McGhee (Garden City/South Plains), Yaxel Lendeborg (Arizona Western), and Alejandro Vasquez (Salt Lake). JUCO players accounted for 41.7% of the Blazers' scoring last season and 48.4% of their rebounding. So far this season, JUCO players have accounted for 70.2% of the Blazers' scoring and 62.8% of their rebounding.
GET TO THE LINE
The Blazers were one of the best teams in the country at getting to the charity stripe in 2023-24, finishing eighth in the country in free throws made per game at 17.8. This year, the Blazers are again getting to the free throw line at a high rate. UAB is 92nd in the nation with 15.3 free throws made per game and 52nd in the country at 76.1 percent from the charity stripe.
CRASH THE BOARDS
This season, UAB is again among the top rebounding teams in the nation, ranking 16th in the country in rebounds per contest with 41.1. UAB is especially strong on the offensive glass with 14.6 offensive boards per game, which is 14th in the nation. Yaxel Lendeborg led the team in rebounding last season with 10.6 per game. He has grabbed 15 or more rebounds in 12 games as a Blazer, including a 21-rebound game vs. Florida Atlantic which ranks second in program history.
