SMOOTH LIKE "BUTTA"
One of the few homegrown players on the UAB roster that did not transfer in from another school, Efrem "Butta" Johnson had a breakout year in 2023-24. Johnson upped his scoring average from 3.5 points per game during his freshman season to 11.2 as a sophomore while taking a much larger role. He hit a team-high 56 three-point field goals while shooting at a .359 clip in 2023-24. After a slow start to the season, Johnson had a breakout game against High Point where he matched his career high of 21 points and hit five three-pointers. He then put together another career performance with 21 points at No. 24 Memphis while hitting five threes.
CRASH THE BOARDS
This season, UAB is again among the top rebounding teams in the nation, ranking 10th in the country in rebounds per contest with 40.9. UAB is especially strong on the offensive glass with 14.7 offensive boards per game, which is ninth in the nation. The Blazers grab 38.7 percent of their misses on the offensive end. Yaxel Lendeborg led the team in rebounding last season with 10.6 per game. He has grabbed 15 or more rebounds in 12 games as a Blazer, including a 21-rebound game vs. Florida Atlantic which ranks second in program history.
