UAB Women’s Soccer Faces Rice on the Road

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's soccer team hits the road to take on Rice in Houston, Texas on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.

SERIES HISTORY
The match marks the 18th time the two teams have faced each other. The Owls lead the series 10-6-1 with the last match taking place in Birmingham last season where the Blazers earned a 2-1 victory.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
UAB drew 0-0 against No. 15/11 Memphis last Thursday night. It was the first time the Blazers faced a ranked opponent this season. Anika Toth had five saves while facing 13 shots but was unphased to lead the Blazers defense to another shutout. It was Toth's 11th career shutout.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Rice is coming off a 1-2 loss at South Florida on Sept. 19. The Owls are 7-2-1 on the season are led by Leah Chancey who has scored six goals this season. Jules Johnston and Kallie McKinney have two goals while Allie Love, Carsyn Martz Natalie Gorji, Camille Quarterman and Dayo Tennyson having one goal apiece.
BREAKOUT CANDIDATES
Abbey Burns has been recognized with an AAC award by earning Honorable Mention (Sept. 26) for her efforts against Samford. Burns has registered five goals so far this season. Sydney Bolinger has netted two goals and Abby Graeser has one goal this year. Maia Sirota recorded her first collegiate goal at UTSA and has tallied two assists so far, with her first to Graeser in the season opener win against ETSU and her second assist to Bolinger at Samford.
BRILLIANCE IN GOAL
This week, Toth earned AAC Goalkeeper of the Week for her performance against the ranked Tigers. So far this season, Toth has recorded four shutouts. Her first coming in UAB's home opener against ETSU (1-0), at home versus Ole Miss (1-0), at Southern Miss (1-0) and against No. 15/11 Memphis (0-0). With the 1-0 win at Southern Miss, Toth recorded her 10th career shutout. Also at Southern Miss, Toth took a free kick and assisted Bolinger in scoring the goal to put the Blazers up. It was the first assist of her career, and she earned AAC Honorable Mention for her efforts.
