A Look at the 2024-25 Men’s Basketball Roster: Frontcourt Preview
8/23/2024 2:04:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM – Yaxel Lendeborg and Christian Coleman headline the Blazers' frontcourt entering the 2024-25 season. Will Shaver and Saint Louis transfer Bradley Ezewiro will also bring some size to the UAB lineup while freshman Makhi Myles adds some talent as a versatile wing or forward.
The reigning AAC Defensive Player of the Year Yaxel Lendeborg has quickly made a name for himself in Birmingham. After a relatively slow start through his first few games in a Blazer uniform, he found his stride just before AAC play. Lendeborg posted a UAB record 19 double-doubles during the season while also grabbing a school record 370 rebounds. He is only the second Blazer to ever average a double-double during a full season.
Coleman, like Lendeborg, was a highly touted JUCO transfer and he played the best basketball of his season down the stretch. He scored in double figures in six of his last seven games, including his first double-double against SMU. The 6'8' forward flashed his athleticism throughout the season.
Will Shaver transferred to back home to UAB from North Carolina prior to the 2023-24 season and appeared in 18 games for the Blazers. The Birmingham native backed up Javian Davis inside for the majority of the season and will look to play a larger role in the coming year.
Bradley Ezewiro transferred to UAB from Saint Louis in the offseason. He will bring some added physicality to the Blazers' frontcourt. The 6'9" forward averaged 12.0 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Billikens last season over 22 games. He was held out during the first few games of the 2023-24 season due to NCAA transfer rules that were lifted in December. Ezewiro previously played at both LSU and Georgetown.
The 6'6" freshman Makhi Myles comes to UAB as one of two freshmen on the roster. Myles played his high school ball at Starkville High School in Mississippi before playing one year of prep school ball at Sunrise Christian in Kansas. He has the ability to shoot the ball from deep and his length allows him to make an impact on the defensive end.
Coleman and Lendeborg have continued to develop throughout the offseason and will look to make an even bigger impact in year two.
