BIRMINGHAM – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released the NCAA Division l Women's Mid-Major and Regional Rankings on Friday, with UAB making the list in the Southern Region.
The Blazers came in at No. 10 for the Southern Regional Team Rankings, while Adela Wasserbauerova ranks No. 18 in the Southern Regional Singles Rankings.
"This past season certainly had its ups and downs, but I was really happy with how the team rebounded," head coach Mark Tjia said. "We had a poor start to the spring season but worked hard together to finish the season on an upswing. Adela showed remarkable consistency and had one of the better individual seasons in recent memory. Her improvement and leadership were certainly one of the highlights of the year. I am confident that we will build off the lessons learned from this past year, and we will be a better program for it moving forward."
UAB had a 13-win season, highlighted by a victory over then No. 58 Wichita State. The ITA ranking marks the fourth time the Blazers have been ranked in the ITA Southern Regional Rankings. In 2007, UAB tied for 15th, then were ranked back-to-back years at No. 9 in 2021 and No. 10 in 2022.
For Wasserbauerova, this marks the first time she has been ranked in the Southern Region. She finished the season with a team-high 21 overall singles win and 15 dual match victories. Of her 15 dual singles wins, 13 were at the No. 1 position and two at the No. 2 spot.
