IRVING – UAB Softball had two athletes named to the All-Conference Team on Tuesday Morning. The Blazers' Hannah Dorsett and Bella Wiggins were given All-Conference Rookie Team and All-Conference Second Team honors by the AAC Conference Office.
Wiggins, a junior, has played 49 games and started 47 for the Green and Gold. She finished the regular season leading the team in batting, slugging, and triples. Tied for third in the nation in triples and leading the team in the stat with seven, Wiggins is one of the toughest players to strike out on the Blazer squad with only 13 on the regular season. In her junior campaign, she totaled 18 RBIS, drew 27 walks, and scored 30 runs.
Dorsett entered her first year as a Blazer with flying colors. Starting every game in the 2024 season, she tallied 142 at-bats with a .324 batting percentage. Tallying a season-high four hits versus UNI, she hit the ground running in her freshman campaign. With 19 RBIs, she was the second-highest on the team in the stat. Dorsett also leads the team in runs scored with 29 and third in stolen bases with seven. Defensively, she's put up 83 putouts with a season-high five versus Memphis and six assists versus EKU.
AAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Wiggins, Dorsett, and the Blazers will compete in the AAC Softball Championships on Wednesday, May 8 at 10 a.m. versus the ECU Pirates.
"We've built all season to reach this point," said head coach AJ Daugherty. "Hopefully we're playing some of our best softball and we believe our best is still to come. We're going into this tournament with a 'Why Not Us?' mentality. Win one game a day for the next four days, that's our focus and our mission."
