UAB Starts AAC Tournament Against #4 Seed Wichita State

CLEARWATER - The UAB baseball team (26-27, 13-14 AAC) landed the #5 seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament and will face the #4 seeded Wichita State Shockers (29-27, 15-12 AAC). The game will be played at 9 a.m. eastern time in Clearwater, Florida.
How Did We Get Here
UAB won their final four conference series of the year after being in last place five weeks ago. The Blazers rattled off wins against Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, and South Florida. UAB continued its hot hitting, scoring 8.2 runs per game over the last 10 contests. Logan Braunshweig is leading the team in batting average hitting .350 with an AAC leading 21 stolen bases. UAB ranks 55th in the nation in sacrifice bunts with 29 total. The Blazers also have three shutouts on the season and are ranked 2nd in the conference in triples with 12. Blayze Berry is nationally ranked in two categories including ERA and strikeouts. He is ranked 41th in strikeouts with 94. He is also ranked 24th in ERA with a 2.71 earned run average. Berry is ranked 12th in victories with nine wins. Darryl Buggs is ranked 17th in triples with five total.
2024 Shockers
Wichita State are also on a very impressive run winning their last three series going 7-2 during that time. The Shockers are led by Camden Johnson who is batting .333 with 39 RBIs and 13 doubles. Five Wichita State players have recorded 30 or more RBIs, and seven have recorded at least 10 doubles. Wichita State are 25th in the nation in doubles with 118. WSU also has over 100 hit by pitches, good enough for 21st in the country. Caden Favors (3.38) will make his 15th start and 16th appearance on the mound. He comes into the game with a team high of 95 strikeouts, which ranks 38th in the country. He also has two complete games and eight victories.
Previous Meetings
UAB lost two out of three games against the Shockers earlier this year. The Blazers took game one before WSU outscored UAB 18-3 over the last two games. The series earlier this year was the first time the two teams had met on the diamond.
