UAB Softball Travels to ECU for Regular Season Finale

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Softball concludes the regular season in the Tar Heel State where they face the ECU Pirates for the final series of the 2024 season. The Green and Gold come in with a record of 21-27 and 12-12 in the AAC after a three-game skid against Charlotte.

SCOUTING THE PIRATES
East Carolina enters the final week of the season with a 31-16 regular season record. At home, the Pirates are 23-8, only taking series losses to Wichita State at Max Joyner Family Stadium. Recently, the Pirates collected a Power Five win over North Carolina before Sweeping Memphis, putting the team on a five-game win streak.
Being one of the top teams in the conference in batting, the Pirates hit .316, the second-highest average in the conference. The team is also top three in slugging, on-base percentage, runs scored, RBIs, doubles, and home runs. Leading the conference in hits with 371, the Pirates are led by Emma Jackson, who leads in batting with an average of .406 and hits with 71. The Virginia Tech transfer posted a season-high three doubles versus Cleveland State and 4 RBIs against UTSA.
In the circle, Taylor Apple is a Pirate to watch for. Pitching nine innings against Charlotte to help the team to a series win over the 49ers, the freshman pitcher put up 10 strikeouts and pitched over 148 innings through the year with a 13-7 W/L record. In fielding, ECU is also ranked in the top half of the American. With 870 putouts and fielding 12 double plays, the Pirates are one to watch for on both sides of the ball.
