Baseball Travels to Tampa to End Regular Season

TAMPA - The UAB baseball team will travel down to beautiful Tampa, Florida for the last series of the year. The Blazers will look to punch a ticket to the American Athletic Conference tournament that starts Tuesday, May 21. UAB currently sits in 5th place, tied with three other teams. South Florida comes into the series one game below UAB. The top eight teams in the conference will play in the tournament in Clearwater, FL.
UAB have won the last three conference series dating back to April 27th when they beat Charlotte. UAB continued its hot hitting, scoring 8.4 runs per game over the last 7 contests. The Blazers did not play a midweek game this week, but won a series against Memphis last weekend. Logan Braunschweig is leading the team in batting average hitting .320 with 19 stolen bases. UAB ranks 60th in the nation in sacrifice bunts with 27 total. The Blazers also have three shutouts on the season and are ranked 1st in the conference in triples with 12. Blayze Berry is nationally ranked in two categories including ERA and strikeouts. He is ranked 49th in strikeouts with 85. He is also ranked 18th in ERA with a 2.61 earned run average. Berry is ranked 28th in victories with eight wins. Darryl Buggs is ranked 15th in triples with five total.
Scouting South Florida
USF are currently two games under .500 at 25-27. Last weekend USF lost a series to UTSA two games to one, before beating North Florida in the midweek. USF have won two conference series this year with a sweep over Wichita State and win over Memphis. USF is led in the hitting department by Joaquin Monque (.314) and John Montes (.311). Montes leads the team in RBIs with 39. The Bulls are a well rounded team with five batters hitting over .295 and eight players with at least 20 RBIs. USF has a team batting average of a .287 while stealing 85 bases.
