UAB Women’s Tennis Adds Maria Paz Ospina to Roster

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team and head coach Mark Tjia have announced the addition of Maria Paz Ospina to the 2024-25 roster.
Ospina, an incoming freshman from Bogota, Colombia, will join the Blazers for the fall 2024 season.
"We are excited to welcome Maria to our Blazer family," Tjia said. "She has an unbridled passion for tennis which really stood out in the recruiting process. We are looking forward to helping her achieve her goals and dreams of playing at the highest level she can."
Ospina was ranked as high as No. 366 in the ITF Junior rankings.
In doubles, became the J5 Pereira doubles champion with partner Manuela Gomez Gomez in November of 2021. The duo won the finals by a score of 7-5, 1-6, 10-6.
Ospina won her second doubles title with partner Sara Alba Verastegui at the J5 Cartagena. The duo defeated their opponents 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 to claim the title in October of 2022.
In singles, she represented Colombia in the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Juniors by BNP Paribas Finals. The tournament was held in Antalya, Turkey, which featured the top nations.
Ospina made her way to the finals of the J4 Santa Tecla in March of 2022, while making it to the finals of the J5 Armenia and J5 Medellin a year prior.
In 2023, Ospina competed in the J30 Cundinamarca where she made it to the semifinals.
