Walk off Home Run Keeps Blazers Hot

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB Blazers win in walk off fashion on Saturday night against Memphis. UAB wins the series to jump to 5th place in the AAC standings.
Memphis started off with a run in the 1st inning after a single and a walk. Jacob Compton reached on a fielder's choice to score DuBose. UAB answered right back with a run in the 3nd and 3rd innings. Gavin Lewis Jr. got his first of three RBIs when he hit a single to center field. That hit scored Tyler Waugh, who got on base with a walk. Memphis walked eight UAB batters today. In the 3rd inning, Nick Hollifield gave UAB a 2-1 lead with a home run to left field.
Nobody scored again until the 6th inning when both teams scored one run. Pierre Seals hit his 31st RBI of the season to tie the game up at two. UAB answered that with a run of their own after a two out wild pitch by Memphis. The wild pitch scored Gavin Lewis Jr. UAB led 3-2 after six innings.
Braxton Shelton pitched seven innings giving up two runs and five hits while striking out four. No runs were scored in innings seven and eight. You could tell this game was going to come down to the wire. The 9th inning came along and Memphis was able to tie the game. Brock Hill started off hot, retiring two out of the first three batters, but then Breenan DeBose singled to right field to score Curtis from 2nd base. That tied the game up at 3-3. That means we were going to extras.
In the top of the 10th Memphis continued their hot bats, when Seth Cox hit a sacrifice fly to score one run. UAB stepped up to bat needing a run to extend the game. Gavin Lewis Jr. had other ideas! After a David Harris walk Lewis Jr. stepped up and hit a line drive home run to left field to walk it off.
This win is huge in the AAC standings as UAB moves up to 5th!
