SAN ANTONIO, TX - The UAB baseball team will travel to Texas for the second time in one week to play 1st place USTA. The roadrunners currently hold the top spot in the American Athletic Conference with a 9-3 record.
UTSA Notes
The team from San Antonio has had a great start to conference play when they knocked off #9 East Carolina in their first series of the year. They have won all four of their conference series, while sweeping Tulane. The Roadrunners also have wins over Baylor and Houston in the midweek. Ruger Riojas is 13th in the nation in ERA, holding a 1.91 mark. He will lead the Roadrunner pitching staff with 51 strikeouts and 16 appearances. Mason Lytle is 2nd in the nation in hits with 66 on the year. UTSA is 8th in the country in hits and ranks 1st in the conference. Six UTSA batters are hitting over .300 on the season.

The Blazers are coming off of their first ranked win since beating #4 Southern Mississippi in 2022. UAB beat #18 Alabama in a midweek game in Tuscaloosa.
The rotation will be the same for UAB as Blayze Berry gets the Friday start, Braxton Shleton gets the Saturday starts, and Colin Daniel gets the Sunday start. Blayze Berry is nationally ranked in two categories including ERA and strikeouts. He is ranked 71st in strikeouts with 58. He is also ranked 42nd in ERA with a 2.44 earned run average. Colin Daniel is ranked 17th in victories with a 6-1 record. Leading UAB in the hitting department are Logan Braunschweig (.305) and Nick Hollifield (.286). Brayton Brown leads the team in slugging % with .492 at the DH position.

UTSA leads the series 9-5 with the last matchup coming in 2023. The Roadrunners won by a score of UAB 4, UTSA 9 on April. 30, 2023. UTSA won two out of three in Birmingham last year. UTSA has won four out of the last five games, while the Blazers have never won a series against the Roadrunners.
