Baseball Gets Win at #18 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA - The UAB Baseball team picked up the first ranked win of the season against the #18 Crimson Tide. The Blazers battled to a 5-2 win in Tuscaloosa.
UAB started off the scoring in the first inning with two runs on two hits. First Nick Hollifield scored Logan Braunschweig with a sacrifice fly, then a fielder's choice was able to score Darryl Buggs.The first few hits for UAB were all infield singles or a fielder's choice. Alabama came right back and tied things up in the bottom of the 1st with two solo home runs.
UAB pitching was outstanding after that moment as the staff would combine for 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, and striking out eight. The scoring continued in the 5th inning when Brayton Brown hit his 8th home run of the season. Nick Hollifield also scored in the 5th when he came across on a wild pitch. UAB out hit Alabama 8-5, while giving up four hits in the 1st inning.
The last run of the game was from the Blazers on another sacrifice fly, but this time by Mayes White. Final score: 5-2 Blazers.

Colin Patterson: 3.0 IP, 3 K, 1 BB, Retired 9 of the 10 batters he faced.
Next Game
UAB will travel to San Antonio for a huge weekend series against UTSA. Friday's game will be played at 6 pm, followed by a 2 pm Saturday start, and a 1 pm Sunday start.
