HOUSTON, TX - The UAB baseball team dropped two straight games to Rice this weekend. The Blazers fell in a 15 inning thriller by a score of 4-3.
UAB had a chance to score in the 1st inning after Darryl Buggs drew a bases loaded walk. A fielder's choice, walk, and hit-by-pitch got the bases loaded, but Rice was able to escape the jam.
Logan Braunschweig stepped up and got the first hit of the game and the first run of the game. Braunschweig hit a single to left field, then advanced to home after a throwing error by Rice. In the same inning, Rice got their first hit of the game, but nothing came from it. In the 4th inning, UAB got their first error of the game. No damage was done as a 134 double play got the Blazers out of the inning.
The Green and Gold were able to get bases loaded, once again in the 5th, but a double play got the Owls out of the inning. There were just four total hits through five innings. J.D McCracken hit four UAB batters during his six innings pitched. We were in a defensive battle through six innings as the Blazers still led 1-0.
Rice finally got on the scoreboard when Jacob Devenny hit a sacrifice fly to right field. The score was 1-1 heading into the 8th inning. Rice had one more opportunity in the bottom of the 9th, but Brock Hill came in and got UAB out of the jam.
The Blazers entered their 3rd extra inning game of the year, going 1-1 in those two games. This was the longest game of the year going into the 15 inning.
