Blazers Travel to Houston for AAC Matchup Against Rice

HOUSTON, TX - The UAB baseball team will be traveling to Houston, Texas to face off against conference opponent Rice. The Blazers will play a three game series starting on Friday and concluding on Sunday.
UAB enters the game with a 14-17 record and no midweek contest this week. The last time we saw the Blazers in action was when they won the series against Tulane last weekend. UAB is 3-6 in conference play needing another series win this weekend.
Series History
Rice leads the series 37-17, winning seven out of the last 10. The Owls swept the series last year winning the three game series by a combined score of 13-3. UAB last won in March 20, 2022 by a score of 9-8 in Houston.
Scouting Rice
Rice comes into the game winning just 10 games on the season and just one game in conference play. Their overall record is 10-24 with a 1-8 conference record. The Owls played two midweek contests, this weekend going 1-1. The first game was Tuesday night against Incarnate Word, where the Owls lost a 5-11 decision. The second game was a 5-3 win against Texas A&M Corpus Cristi on Wednesday night. Kyle McDonald leads Rice hitting .300 and appearing in 31 games. He leads the team in stolen bases (5) and triples (3). On the mound, we will see RHP Parker Smith on Friday, LHP J.D. McCracken on Saturday, and RHP Tucker Alch on Sunday. Smith has started eight games with a team leading 44.1 innings pitched and a 4.26 ERA. McCracken has a 5.36 ERA with eight appearances and 40 strikeouts. Alch has only pitched 16.2 innings, but stands with a 3.24 ERA and eight strikeouts.
