Henderson's Walk-Off Hit Gives UAB 10-2 Win Over Memphis

BIRMINGHAM – UAB secured the first win of the Memphis series with a walk-off 2RBI Double from Ant Henderson. The Blazers' 10-2, six-inning victory pushes the Green and Gold to a 9-7 AAC record and an 18-22 overall record.
The Blazers finished with nine runs on their double-digit run win, the Blazers held the Tigers to zero runs through the first four innings. Kaily Collett finished with a game-high two hits and Leigha Kirby finished the night with four strikeouts.
IN THE INNINGS
The Green and Gold started the game with two early walks to put Memphis on base. The Blazers responded with back-to-back outs before entering the bottom of the first. The Blazers entered the bottom half with a walk and stolen base from Auburn Dupree before advancing on a wild pitch. With two outs, Olivia Valbak delivered a base hit to third base, sending Dupree across home to put UAB up 1-0.
UAB went on to close out the top of the second with a quick three-up-three-down before adding run number two after a sac bunt and stolen base from Makenzie Droddy and Lilly Crowe gave Alyssa Aguilar the go-ahead to secure home. The third run came from another stolen base from Dupree, giving Crowe the thumbs up to score.
Memphis went cold throughout the third, but the Blazers remained hot. The Green and Gold secured another run, coming from an RBI Single from Alyssa Aguilar to send Kaily Collett across home. With UAB leading by four halfway through the game, the Blazers maintained their defensive efforts. The Blazers secured three runs off two hits in the bottom of the fourth to lead 7-0.
The Tigers wouldn't go down without delivering a run of their own, with two hits in the top of the fifth being enough to secure a run. The Green and Gold responded to their offensive run with a run in the bottom of the fifth after being caught stealing. UAB's Hannah Miles drew a walk before stealing second and third, giving Dupree the RBI single to put the Blazers up 8-1.
Memphis delivered another rally of hits after a single and double to threaten a run before scoring off a sacrifice. But the bottom of the sixth meant an early end for Memphis after a walk and single from Hannah Dorsett and Collett. Henderson followed the two, sending a double to center field, plating Collett and Dorsett, and securing the 10-2 win.
IN THE BOX
- The Blazers finished with nine hits. Kaily Collett finished with the most hits on the night with two.
- Henderson led the team in RBIs with three, two of which came in her walk-off 2RBI double.
- Kirby adds win number six to sit at a record of 6-9 in the circle.
- UAB leads the record over Memphis with 19 wins to Memphis' eight.
- UAB was struck out only twice, they drew eight walks and left five stranded.

The Blazers return to action on Saturday to take on Memphis for game two. The first pitch is at 1 p.m.
