TULSA – UAB Softball quarreled with the Golden Hurricane down to the last play in game one of the series. The Blazers fell to Tulsa in a two-out walkoff 3RBI double, 5-6. The Green and Gold sit at a record of 14-18 and 5-5 in AAC play.
IN THE INNINGS
The Green and Gold opened the game hitless and runless in the first three innings. Pitcher Leigha Kirby was able to strike out three batters through the duration of the innings, and the defense was able to protect home plate. The Green and Gold kept Tulsa without a run and left three runners on base when on defense before a double to right field plated the first run of the day.
UAB responded in the top of the fourth with a bunt single from Bella Wiggins. The bunt turned into a scoring run after a throwing error, giving Wiggins the go-ahead to cruise into home plate unscathed.
The bottom half of the fourth saw defensive miscues from the Blazers, with a Tulsa runner reaching on a walk, followed by an obstruction, which put the Golden Hurricane in position to score. However, the Blazers were able to keep Tulsa at one run.The fifth inning went in favor of the Golden Hurricane, with two hits on the board and an RBI off a throwing error to plate a runner. UAB bounced back in the sixth with a scoring rally kicked off by an RBI single from Wiggins. Another run came to fruition after a wild pitch sent Hannah Dorsett across home. But it was a homer to left field from Ant Henderson, who entered at pinch hitter, to put the Blazers up 5-2.
