UAB Opens First Ever AAC Play Against Wichita State

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team will play its first ever American Athletic Conference series this weekend against Wichita State. UAB comes into the series with a 10-10 record, while Wichita State sits at 13-7.
The American Athletic Conference is a very competitive conference with all 10 teams winning at least eight games. The Blazers come to the AAC from Conference USA where UTSA, Charlotte, Memphis, Rice, and FAU were also members last year. East Carolina leads the league with a #10 national ranking and a 15-4 record.
UAB has been able to steal bases just about as well as anyone in the country, ranking 38th with 38 stolen bases. The Blazers also rank 20th in the country in shutouts with two on the season. Blayze Berry has helped UAB get those two shutouts with his 1.82 ERA, which ranked 39th in the country.
About Wichita State
The shockers have started off the 2023 season without losing a series thus far. The Shockers have wins over Little Rock, Utah Tech, Long Beach State, and Gonzaga. The one common opponent both teams have played is Auburn, with both losing by more than five runs. The Shockers have six guys batting over the .300 mark, including Camden Johnson who leads the team (.378). On the mound, Wichita State has three pitchers with at least 22.0 innings, including a team leading 34.1 innings from Caden Favors. Extra bases have been easy to come by, as the Shockers have totaled 41 doubles, which ranks 82nd in the nation. The Shockers also rank 36th nationally in ERA with an impressive 4.08 mark.
