Blazers Battle Against In-State Opponent Troy

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team played a midweek game against Troy Tuesday aftnernoon. The Trojans travled to Birmingham with a 14-7 record.

Troy scored two runs in the first two innings with the first being a solo shot by Will Butcher and the second on an RBI single by Kavanagh.

The Trojans also were able to muster two more runs in the 5th inning, before the Blazers finally got on the board. Brayton Brown singled to short for his 18th RBI of the year, and Tyler Waugh walked to score Gavin Lewis Jr.

Troy grabbed another three runs in the 6th before UAB came storming back in the 7th inning by scoring six unearned runs. Joe Watkins earned a walk and then back to back errors put the bases loaded. Jake Smallwood drove in two runs with his single to left field. Nick Hollifield then captured his first hit of the year on a double to left center, which cleared the bases and scored three. David Harris got in on the action with a single to right field to score Hollifield. This would give UAB their first lead of the game at 8-7.

John Luke Marlin stepped atop the mound in the 8th inning, when Troy tied the game with a sacrifice fly. The Blazers got two hits in the 8th and 9th inning, but could not get a runner across to tie the game. Troy homered in the 9th inning to win the game 9-8.

Brooks House recorded five strikeouts in his 4.1 innings pitched.
