UAB Baseball Headed to Jacksonville, Alabama for Midweek Clash

JACKSONVILLE - The UAB baseball team will travel out to Jacksonville, Alabama to play Jacksonville State University.
Jacksonville State enters the Wednesday midweek game with a record of 6-8. The Gamecocks have won two series on the year with wins over Memphis and Iowa. The one common opponent between both teams is Kennesaw State. The Blazers took two of three from the Owls and Jax State lost the midweek game 8-2. Caleb Johnson leads the Gamecocks hitting .315 with five home runs and 14 RBIs. Sam Maynard leads the pitching staff with nine appearances and 7.2 innings pitched.
UAB is coming off of a series loss to Belmont where they lost the first two games but won the Sunday game. The Blazers have scored 98 runs allowing opponents to score 108. The UAB pitching staff will look to shut down the bats of Jacksonville State that have scored 69 runs on the year. UAB has stolen 28 bases throughout the year being efficient on the base pads.
On the mound, Braxton Shelton (3.29 ERA) will make his third start and fourth appearance. Shelton last made a start against UT Martin where he pitched seven innings only allowing four hits. Brooks House (7.56), Christian Clack (9.53), and John Luke Marlin (10.50) have made the most appearances with six.
First pitch will be at 6 PM in Jacksonville, AL Wednesday night.
