UAB Takes Alabama Into Extra Innings

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team lost its second game in a row for the first time this season. The Blazers scored seven runs on 13 hits, but Alabama hit the ball 16 times.

Brayton Brown started the Blazers off with a big hit off the left field wall. That hit scored Logan Braunschweig who got on base with a hard hit ball which deflected off the pitcher. Brown finished the night three for four with one RBI

On the mound for UAB was sophomore Braxton Brooks. Brooks retired the first seven Alabama batters until Justin Lebron was hit by pitch. Brooks finished the night after the 5th inning with
3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, and 3 Ks.

In the second inning the hits kept coming with seven hits in the first two innings. Darryl Bugs bunted home Alex Cheeseman and got a single out of it. Tyler Harrington reached on a fielding error that scored Buggs and Gavin Lewis Jr. UAB led 4-0 after two innings.

UAB did not allow a hit until the 5th inning when Bryce Eblin homered to right field. The Crimson Tide went on to score six unanswered runs to lead 6-4.

Starting the 8th inning, Alabama's pitcher Alton Davis brought some energy, but then Gavin Lewis Jr. came up to bat. Lewis Jr. hit a solo shot to left field. Alabama led 6-5 heading into the 9th inning.

Alabama stranded two in the top of the 9th, after a great throw home by Logan Braunschweig. Tyler Harrington started the 9th off with a single. Joe Watkins came in to pinch run for Harrington and Watkins would be the tying run. Watkins scored on a Payton Puckett ground out.

UAB and Alabama headed into extra innings. The bats started flying for Alabama as they scored three runs in the 10th. This proved to be too much to come back from as UAB could only score one. The run came on a ground out by Logan Braunschweig that scored Alex Cheesseman.

Next Game:
The Blazers are back in action this weekend for a three game series at The University of North Alabama.
