UAB Women’s Basketball Drops to North Texas, 95-77

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team suffered an 95-77 loss against North Texas on Saturday afternoon inside Bartow Arena.
Before the game, the Blazers took time to honor three seniors including Tenley Dowell, Kylee Schneringer and Maddie Walsh.
UAB (18-10, 9-7 AAC) shot 44 percent for the game, but UNT (20-7, 10-5 AAC) was 55 percent from the floor.
Denim Deshields had a standout game for the Blazers with 28 points on 10-of-12 shooting and 7-of-7 from the line. Mia Moore recorded 17 points and was 7-of-15 from the field. Also in double figures was Maddie Walsh. Walsh tallied 14 points on 4-of-9 from the 3-point range and went 5-of-12 in field goal range.
However, UAB could not slow down Tommisha Lampkin who recorded 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds. UNT also received 24 from DesiRay Kernal and 15 from Shamaryah Duncan.
The first quarter featured six ties as neither team could pull away from each other and the score was even at 30-30 after the first 10 minutes. The Blazers were 12-of-16 from the field, 6-of-9 from the long range and shot 75 percent, while UNT was 11-of-16 in field goal range, 5-of-5 in the 3-point range and shot 69 percent.
UAB went 6-of-14 from the field and scored 16 points, but North Texas put up 23 points to have the lead heading into halftime (53-46). UNT shot 53 percent and held the Blazers to 43 percent in the second quarter.
UAB kept up with UNT's shooting as the Mean Green scored 24 points and the Blazers recorded 22. Heading into the final frame, North Texas had a nine-point lead at 77-68.
The gap was too big for UAB to close in the fourth and UAB would only be able to get with nine in the final quarter.
The Blazers return to action on March 2 as they head to Memphis, Tennessee to take on Memphis. Tip is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
