Lendeborg Leads UAB Past North Texas
2/18/2024 6:40:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM – Yaxel Lendeborg scored a career high 26 points to lead UAB men's basketball (17-8, 9-3 AAC) to a 71-62 win over North Texas (14-11, 7-6 AAC) on Sunday. The Blazers have won nine-straight games at Bartow Arena and five of their last six overall.
Lendeborg scored 16 of his 26 points in the first half. The 6'9" forward went on a solo 12-3 run over four minutes late in the period to put the Blazers up by double digits after each team started slowly on the offensive end.
UAB led 34-24 at the half after Javian Davis sunk a pair of free throws with 14 seconds remaining. The Blazers matched their season low of 24 points allowed in a half, the fewest UAB has allowed since the second half of the season opener against Bradley.
Davis opened the second half aggressively, scoring UAB's first five points to help the Blazers push the lead to 14 over the first three minutes. The Blazers extended the advantage to as many as 18 points in the second half after a reverse layup by Lendeborg.
The Mean Green did not go away quietly, trimming the lead down to just seven points with 1:08 on the clock. However, the Blazers went 8-for-8 from the free throw line to close it out for a 71-62 victory.
