UAB Hot Hitting Pushes Blazers Past Owls

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team won their first game of the 2024 campaign this afternoon. The win came against Kennesaw State, which ties up the series at one game a piece. The series will be decided tomorrow at 1 pm at Young Memorial Field.
Kennesaw State started the scoring in the 3rd inning with a home run to left field by Spencer Hanson. There have been six total home runs by both teams in this series. The 3rd inning continued with scoring, this time the Blazers got on the board. Brayton Brown hit a sac fly to left field and Tyler Harrington scored on a wild pitch. The score at the end of the 3rd was 3-2 Owls.
The scoring continued for the Blazers in the 5th inning with another sac fly. Mayes White hit a deep fly ball to center field that scored Jake Smallwood. UAB then took their first lead of the game on a throwing error that scored Tyler Waugh. The score after the 5th sat at 4-3.
Kennesaw State helped UAB score 12 runs with six fielding errors. Coach Dunn and the Blazers continued their good hitting habits, out-hitting the Owls 20-12 over both games.
Two runs came across the plate in the 6th and 7th innings for the Blazers. Brayton Brown and Darryl Buggs both homered and brought in four total RBIs to give UAB an 8-3 lead. The last run of the 7th inning came on a throwing error by the Owls and scored Braunschweig.
Logan Braunschweig hit a double to left center to bring around two Blazers. He finished the night going 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. Alan Choo ended the scoring on a fielding error by the Owls center fielder giving UAB a 12-3 lead.
Kennesaw State scored one run in the top of the 9th as they tried to mount a comeback. UAB was too strong and the final score ended at 12-4 as the Blazers win.

The Blazers are back tomorrow to finish the series vs Kennesaw State. First pitch for tomorrow is set for 1 p.m.
