Baseball Host Kennesaw State in Season Opener

BIRMINGHAM - The 2024 baseball season will begin this weekend, Feb. 16-18, with a three-game series against Kennesaw State at Young Memorial Field.
The series will start on Friday at 2 p.m. followed by Saturday's contest at 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale at 1 p.m.
UAB is led by coach Casey Dunn who has added three new staff members to the 2024 roster. The coaching staff added 16 new players to this year's roster including eight transfers. Hitters like Logan Braunschwieg, Gavin Lewis Jr., and Darryl Buggs highlights the returners from last years team, Lewis Jr. returns with six home runs and 19 RBI, while Buggs will anchor center field once again for the Blazers.
Kennesaw State brings back Junior Smith Pinson, who achieved a 2.27 ERA in 35.2 innings and 18 appearances. Kennesaw State is under the authority of third year head coach Ryan Coe. Coe has held a respectable 61-57 record while with the Owls.
This should be an action-packed battle between two teams that are looking to change the ways of their programs. Last year the Blazers and Kennesaw State both finished below .500. The Owls finished 25-29 while the Blazers finished 17-36. Kennesaw State leads the series 14-9, while UAB has only won one out of the last four. The last game between the two teams was won by Kennesaw State 4-3.
