SERIES HISTORY
Monday's contest will be the first regular season meeting between the Blazers and the Warhawks. The two programs met at the start of the 2021-22 season in an exhibition contest.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blazers fell in their first road test of the season at High Point by a score of 68-65. Efrem "Butta" Johnson was the bright spot for UAB as he was able to shake off some early season struggles to score 21 points. Yaxel Lendeborg also added 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
SMOOTH LIKE "BUTTA"
One of the few homegrown players on the UAB roster that did not transfer in from another school, Efrem "Butta" Johnson had a breakout year in 2023-24. Johnson upped his scoring average from 3.5 points per game during his freshman season to 11.2 as a sophomore while taking a much larger role. He hit a team-high 56 three-point field goals while shooting at a .359 clip in 2023-24. After a slow start to the season, Johnson had a breakout game against High Point where he matched his career high of 21 points and hit five three-pointers.
JUCO DAWGS
UAB has embraced the JUCO ranks during Andy Kennedy's time in Birmingham and the 2024-25 roster features seven players that have played at a Junior College including Christian Coleman (South Plains), Greg Gordon (Dyersburg State), Marquis Hargrove (Arizona Western), Ja'Borri McGhee (Garden City/South Plains), Yaxel Lendeborg (Arizona Western), and Alejandro Vasquez (Salt Lake). JUCO players accounted for 41.7% of the Blazers' scoring last season and 48.4% of their rebounding. So far this season, JUCO players have accounted for 73.2% of the Blazers' scoring and 75.8% of their rebounding.
