UAB Volleyball Drops Sunday Match at Rice

BIRMINGHAM - UAB loses a close set three 26-24 and the entire match to Rice on Sunday afternoon. Mia Reese led the Blazers with eight kills on 27 attempts.
Abby Jones has been hitting very efficiently with just nine errors in the last four matches. She had seven kills with just one hitting error. UAB had early leads in sets one and three. Set one UAB led 6-3 after a Mia Reese kill. Things quickly changed when Rice went on a five point run.
Katrina Jenson (14), Lademi Ogunlana (12), and Samarah Hill (10) all had more than 10 kills and led Rice. Ogunlana hit a game high .435 with over (10 attempts).
Set two was dominated by Rice jumping out to a 7-0 lead, winning 25-13.
UAB once again started really well by leading 6-2, but allowing Rice to get back in the set quickly. The Blazers took a late 21-18 lead before going into extra points. Rice won the match 3-0 for a home sweep.
The Blazers are currently in 9th place in the AAC Standings while Rice are tied for 1st.
UAB will travel to Florida next weekend to take on FAU and South Florida on Friday and Sunday.
