UAB Track & Field to Host Vulcan Invite

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Track & Field is set to host the Vulcan Invite on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala. The Blazer Invite on Friday, Jan. 12 at the Birmingham Crossplex has been canceled by the City of Birmingham due to the threat of severe inclement weather.
The Vulcan Invite begins at 9 a.m. with men's and women's Shot Put and concludes at the finish of the 4x400m which begins at 4 p.m. A total of 21 Blazers will be suiting up in the Green and Gold across all events to represent UAB.
VULCAN INVITE EVENTS
The Vulcan Invite will begin with Shot Put, where Megan Hamilton Strong and Birthe' Franck-Petersen will represent UAB. The Weight Throw is the next field event to follow, with Tia Espinoza being the lone competitor for UAB in the event.
For jumps, four athletes will be representing UAB in the Long Jump, Corinne Ball will be the only athlete representing UAB in the Triple Jump, three athletes will be representing UAB in the Pole Vault and three Blazers will be representing UAB in the High Jump.
On the track, the first event of the day is the 60m where three Blazers, including Gabby Washington who finished top-3 (2nd) in the BSC Icebreaker in the 200m, will be competing. Jasmine Dereje, Kelsey Pacha, Taylor Washington, Synai Jones and Sydney Mitchell will be representing UAB in the 60m Hurdles, which is the final event of the day where UAB is competing.
