Blazers Fall to USF in Match Two

TAMPA β The UAB volleyball team fell to the South Florida Bulls on Saturday afternoon 0-3. The Blazers are now 2-15 overall and 0-5 in conference play after the loss.Β
IN THE SETSΒ
The Blazers started the first set with a promising offensive run, jumping out to a 12-7 lead. UAB would maintain their lead, taking advantage of the service errors from the Bulls to reach the 20-point mark before USF began to creep back within range. After a block assist from the Bulls and a service error from the Blazers, South Florida would be within a point of the Blazers. USF would then go on a 4-1 run to claim set one 25-23.
The second set saw South Florida take the early lead over the Blazers, with the Bulls leading UAB by six points before the Blazers halted the five-point run with a kill from Chloe Rodriguez. The Green and Gold followed with another kill from Rodriguez before the Bulls followed up with a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 12 points. The Blazers would not regain the lead, falling to the Bulls 13-25.
The final and deciding set was similar to the previous one, with USF taking an 8-4 lead, with the Blazers trailing by three points through the early stages of the set. The Green and Gold responded with a series of kills and blocks to trail 12-15. The Blazers were then halted with a 10-1 run to conclude the match 13-25, falling zero sets to three.Β
IN THE BOX
- Kelsey Smith was the stat leader in kills for the second match in a row with nine kills on the match.
- The Blazers were held to 28 kills to the Bulls' 43.
- The Blazers finished with four kills to the Bulls five. They were out-blocked by four blocks, two statistical categories where the Blazers outperformed the Bulls the night before.Β
- Anna Burkhardt led the match with 13 digs.Β
