Late Goal Trips Up Men's Soccer Against Chicago State

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's soccer (0-2-1) fell, 3-2, to Chicago State (2-1) on Friday night at Goldfarb Field on the campus of Birmingham-Southern. The Cougars scored the game winner in the 89^th minute to take the match.

The Blazers took the lead in the 32^nd minute after Gustavo Barbosa's corner kick found Alan Melendez for the UAB goal. Chicago State answered right back with a goal to tie it back up only three minutes later.

The score remained tied at 1-1 until midway through the second half. In the 71^st minute, a red card was shown to Melendez, putting the Blazers down a man for the rest of the match. However, less than one minute later, Kaleb Jowers put UAB on top, 2-1, with his first collegiate goal.

The Cougars responded once again only a few minutes later, scoring the equalizer in the 76^th minute.

Chicago State was able to take the lead in the 89^th minute on an impressive individual effort by Florian Ouaddour, who was able to drive the ball into the top right corner of the goal to give the Cougars the 3-2 win.

UP NEXT
The Blazers will be back in action on Sunday against Houston Christian at Goldfarb Field on the campus of Birmingham Southern. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT. Admisson is free to Sunday's game.
