BIRMINGHAM – UAB Baseball and Head Coach Casey Dunn has announced the addition of Brad Moss and Parker Curry to the coaching staff as well as the promotion of Brandon Moore.
Moss joins the team as the Recruiting Coordinator while Curry serves as the Director of Pitching Development. Moore enters his second year with UAB and his first season as an assistant coach after spending last season as Director of Operations.
"I am excited about our new staff makeup as we prepare for the upcoming season," said Coach Dunn. "With changes in last year's staff, it has allowed me to make the additions of Brad Moss and Parker Curry who will strengthen our current staff."
With the new NCAA rule that allows three full-time on-field assistant coaches, Coach Dunn said that moving Coach Moore into this new role was a "no brainer."
"Brandon has over 20 years of experience in professional baseball and is a master teacher of the game who will continue to help our position players develop," said Dunn.
The Moss File
Moss enters year one with the Blazers after serving as an assistant coach with Samford Baseball and oversaw on-campus recruiting during Coach Dunn's stint with the program before completely taking over recruiting in 2021.
As a member of the Samford staff, Moss helped the program to four SoCon championships in five years and was on staff while winning two SoCon tournament titles as Samford advanced to the 2021 Starkville Regional and 2023 Auburn Regional. Moss tutored eight Power 5 transfers and 4 MLB draft picks: Colton Ledbetter (2nd), Sonny Dichiara (5th) Branden Fryman (21st), Anthony Mulrine (25th).
Moss began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Montevallo for two years before moving to Lawson State Community College in 2018 to serve as the recruiting coordinator and hitting/catching coach before returning to his alma mater, Samford, in 2019.
As a former Samford Baseball standout, Moss was a four-year starting catcher from 2009-12. He is the career leader for games played and leads the program in most season and career sacrifice bunts. As a senior, he batted .321 with 44 RBI and 48 runs scored, plus a team-high 44 walks. In 2012, Moss led Samford to their first SoCon Championship and the program's first NCAA tournament. He was selected to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List. During his time at Samford, Moss earned a degree in Exercise Science.
Moss and his wife, former Arica Dykes, have two children – Emma Kathryn and Maddie Claire.
The Curry File
Curry enters his first year with UAB after spending the 2023 season as Director of Baseball Operations for Samford. During his tenure at Samford, he oversaw data collection from the Trackman software and relayed that data for player development. In addition to Trackman, he oversaw the PitchCom system and helped with scouting reports which he will continue to do for the Blazers.
A two-way player for Samford, Curry contributed both on the mound and in the field. During his career, Curry found success as a starting and relief pitcher and as a closer which led him to multiple So-Con Pitcher of the Week honors and a First Team All-SoCon starting pitcher his senior year.
Curry signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers following his collegiate career in 2016 and stayed in the Dodgers' organization until 2022. During his time with the Dodgers, Curry started 28 games and appeared in 69 games as a reliever while also having pitched in Major League spring training games in 2018 and 2019. After suffering an elbow injury which led to Tommy John surgery, Curry began his coaching career in 2022.
Curry and wife Megan welcomed their first child, Lauren, last year.
Coach Dunn Quote:
"I am excited about our new staff makeup as we prepare for the upcoming season. I want to thank Coach Kunkel and Coach Navarrete for the two years they put into to our program. Both are phenomenal people and will leave a positive impact on our program. We wish them both the best with their new opportunities.
"With these changes it has allowed me to make additions that will strengthen our current staff by bringing in two outstanding young men in Brad Moss and Parker Curry.
"In addition, I am thrilled to promote Coach Moore to an on the field role with our program. This coming year will be the first time that the NCAA will allow three full time on field assistant coaches. I am very appreciative that our administration has made the commitment to allow us to add this year position to our staff. Moving Coach Moore to this role was a no brainer. Having over twenty years of experience in professional baseball he is a master teacher of the game and will continue to help our position players develop."
